In late 2007, the Ministry of Culture proclaimed the preparation of the Miner’s Cake an intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia. The Miner’s Cake is becoming increasingly popular and is being promoted through events, exhibitions and festivals. In order to preserve its making tradition in other places it is also important to promote and preserve the original recipe. Small workshops are being organized where people learn how to make the original Miner’s Cake. The most important fact is that it is not the ingredients that make the difference, but the skill of the cake maker.. General process is to be respected if the cake is to be called Miner’s Cake.
It should be salty, filled with cottage cheese or with cottage cheese with add-ons (walnuts, yellow carrot, young onion leaves, nettle, and spinach); the dough should not be thick and should not contain a lot of yeast.
